How to make a study desktop for your children’s room.

Hello. As I have already promised to you I want to show you how to make an additional kids room furniture to the book shelf I have showed you in my previous post.

Materials:
  • 2xFlat wooden panels 1.20x2.40 (choose the colour yourself)
  • Edging Tape for the sides of the panels
  • Metal brackets bended at 90 degrees
  • Screws
  • Batteries Lights
  • Laths x 2 / 2sm x 4sm
Now my dear friends I am going to show you how to make a study desktop for your kids without too much of an effort. The effect you will get from the light spreading underneath of the panel is quite good. When you buying the Panels ask for them to be cut on 0.60sm.This is the width of the panel and the desktop legs. In most cases height of 0.80 sm is good enough, but again feels free to adjust the height to your requirements. If the 2 sides of desktop is to be situated between 2 walls, take the laths and fix them on the wall with appropriate screws.
In the next step you will use the edging tape. Please cut the edging tape along the length of the on 0.10 sm and stick it underneath of the panel. The edging tape is installed with using the metal brackets on angle of 90 degrees. Please don’t drill in to desktop visible part. Drill from beneath in to the non-displayed part of the panel.
After that on the back end of the Panel you can place the battery lights with previously purchased silicon.
Your kids will be quite happy with the new addition to their room and probably will start coming up better grades school if they haven’t done this already. Let alone what the new Desktop can do for your credibility. Simply wonders.
So far so good folks, but we still don’t have any legs for the desktop. You can come up with the shape yourself and use the reminder of the material. You can use wood cutting tool of your choice for that purpose.
Next step is to stick the desktop on the 2 laths which already have installed between the walls.

Then use the metal brackets to fix the wooden legs underneath of the desktop. Don’t forget to use couple of the screws for fixing the panel to the laths. Place the screws from beneath the desktop. Hurrahs!!! Now you have a great study desktop and kids will be delighted with daddy DIY skills.

Good luck

How to make a bookshelf for our kid’s room.

Hello again my dear friends and DIY enthuses. Today I am going to share with you how to make Book shelf for the kid’s room.

 We need the following:

 Wooden boards x 2 / 1,20 x 2,40
1 Box of wood screws
 White plugs screw heads
 Metal brackets for the shelves
 Banding strip

I am highly recommending you get the boards cut in the shop if possible on a width of 0,20 sm. When it comes to the positioning of the shelves use your imagination and position in the way you feel comfortable.
Again I would recommend you take the measurement of the wall and draw a draft of how the book shelves should look like when complete. I have always done it this way and I am quite happy with this practice and outcome.
When you buying a flat pack furniture you will find out in the instructions that you are to put together few different parts. In our case this will be done in a different way. We will start the assembly from left to right in as you will be positioning the shelves in chess type configuration. Please see the picture below.
On the two sides of the boards you will be drilling in for the holes in which you stick the metal holders where you lay down the shelves. When you finish with the first roll you need to add the second long board and start again.
You can use the screws for fortification of the whole assembly. Use the white plugs so you can cover the screw heads. Next step is to use the banding and cover the cut side of the board. You can use an iron for the banding.
So this is it. It is not that difficult and you can have book shelve for the kid’s room in couple of hours. Again use your imagination for positioning of the shelves.
In my next post I will show you how to make a study desktop with hidden light underneath of it.

Good luck.
